FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1 What are 'HID' lights?
HID stands for 'High Intensity Discharge'. The name describes the method in which the light is produced by stimulating a gas between two electrodes. The technology has been around for some time but has only relatively recently been applied to portable torches and lights. Presently they produce the greatest amount of light per unit of electricity of any torch. (Up to 100 lumen/watt) (Refer Wikipedia - 'HID') So, they are the brightest hand-held torches available on the market today.
2 Why use Li-ion rechargeable batteries?
Li-ion batteries, which are also used in mobile phones and laptop computers, have the most efficient energy to mass ratio of all the common batteries especially rechargeable batteries. They are twice as efficient as similar weighted NiMH or NiCd batteries in terms of electricity stored per gram of weight. They also have the benefit of not suffering 'memory effect' and have a slow loss of charge when not in use. Over time Li-ion batteries will lose their efficacy like all rechargeable batteries. (Refer Wikipedia - 'Li-ion battery')
3 How to care for your HID light and Li-ion battery to ensure they last:-
-
try to ensure adequate airflow around light when in use
-
li-ion batteries are best stored with a 50% charge
-
when not in use store your li-ion battery in the fridge or freezer to extend its life
-
old poorly functioning li-ion batteries can sometimes be jolted back to life by a couple of days in the freezer
